In a Vase on Monday: Rain Dance
Join me for a rain dance! Airy pale pinks and whites make me think of whispy clouds, of which we have had so few recently. However, despite a severe lack of rain, I am grateful for every single flower that is surviving and thriving, and I am happy to be joining Cathy at Rambling in the Garden for her weekly meme once again, where we are invited to share a vase of materials from our gardens.
The first Aquilegias opened at the weekend. There are many more to come, and some interesting mixes from what I can see so far. I couldn’t resist picking a couple of the first ones.
I decided to cut a Viburnum (V. ‘Eskimo’) (above, centre) that is growing in the middle of my Herb Bed. Planting it there was a mistake in retrospect, but today I noticed a faint scent which is not at all overpowering indoors. It also looks rather pretty in a vase and has thus redeemed itself.
There are still a few tulips hanging on, even after a mini heatwave at the weekend, and this white one appeared in one of the beds… I don’t remember planting it, let alone its name!
And the Pulsatilla flowers are now turning into these beautfiul seedheads. The darker ones are from purple flowers and the paler ones are from white flowers. I can never resist stroking these when I get near enough.
And centre front the lovely Iberis. I know it is evergreen in the UK but here it loses most of its leaves in winter and turns black, so I cut it back by about half in early spring. It is finally in flower.
The glazed vase is a recent find – I do like this shape and the narrow neck.
If you have any spare rain, do send it our way…. Thank you!
Happy Gardening!
